About Nathan
Nathan W. Pyle is an American cartoonist, writer, and illustrator widely known as the creator of the popular webcomic and Apple TV+ series Strange Planet. He is a #1 New York Times bestselling author.
Pyle grew up in Ohio, studied theology, and taught high school theology before moving to New York City in 2008 to pursue creative work. He started with T-shirt designs and gained wider attention after creating viral animated GIFs about New York life, which led to his first book and a job at BuzzFeed.
In February 2019, Pyle launched the Strange Planet webcomic, which quickly gained a massive online following. The comic features blue, alien-like beings who describe everyday human experiences using overly literal, technical language (e.g., "I crave star damage" for "I want a suntan"). The comic has been adapted into an animated series for Apple TV+, for which Pyle serves as creative and executive producer. He collaborates with his wife, Taylor Pyle, on the comic's ideas and language.
